selection of commodities

From a list of all commodities we still cannot find exactly which one matches what  we do in our business under services.

Here is a description of what  we do

1 Drill boreholes for water

2 Install steel and PVC casing in those boreholes IMMEDIATELY DURING AND AFTER DRILLING IS COMPLETED.

3 Test how much water can that borehole yield per second/minute or hour and be able to determine the size of the pump which must be installed.

4 Install submerssible and mono pumps

5  Erect steel elevated tankstands and water tanks.

NB. In all these instances we supply all material and service as a full package. We are actually stuck in completing our supplier database registration because

the commodities listed under drilling do not match exactly what we do can we get assistance in this regard ?

  • We are an independent service provider for the purposes of the survey and do not represent the Centralised Supplier Database team or National Treasury. However, we can offer some advice.

Getting the commodities right on the CSD is probably the most challenging part of the registration for most people. It is however a very important step because that is what departments and municipalities will use to search for suppliers to invite to tenders/requests for quotation (RFQ’s). So it is worthwhile to give this some focus.

There are two pieces of information aimed at helping suppliers to get this right:

    1. 1.       The first source of support is the spreadsheet you can download from the OCPO website On that page you should look for the “Commodity list” link.   Download the Excel file and you can then search for the appropriate commodities to select on the website.
    2. 2.       At the top right of the commodities area there is a link to the UNSPSC (the classification system used) website. It says: “Click here to search for your commodity codes” Here you can search for the right commodity code. Use this code with the spreadsheet to find the correct hierarchical structure to select.
