What is a tender?

A tender is put out when large-scale buyers advertise their needs and invite bids or tenders from a range of suppliers. Put simply, a tender /bid/request for proposal (RFP) is an offer in writing to carry out work or to supply goods/services at a certain price.

Things to keep in mind when applying for a tender:

  • Decide whether you can deliver the goods/service required
  • Take note of the cut off time and submit your tender before the cut off time
  • Tender only for those contracts that fit your business focus or scope.

FAQ received by Tenderscan: “We would like to find out who won a specific tender. Does your service include publication of whom tenders are awarded to?”

Tenderscan’s answer: Because we cannot provide tender award information for all tender notices listed on our site as only a small portion of these are published. The organisation putting out to tender should inform everyone who submitted a tender when a tender has been awarded, and to whom.
